I think you're right. It must be awful to be her. Unlike Melania, who's a blatant gold digger.

She's a Serena Joy. It doesn't matter if she's chosen her position or not. It doesn't matter if she's "appalled" or doesn't really agree or doesn't share her husband's opinions (I've seen no evidence of any of that).

She's chosen to stay and benefit from the system. She still upholds the system, however willing or unwilling she might be. Maybe during any future tribunals, we'll get to hear her tearful explanations of how she was just "standing by her man" and was "too afraid to disagree" with him as he and this foul regime shredded the Constitution.

I see James liked your comment. I'm a little disappointed he didn't respond though. I'd have liked to read his reaction. Oh well, maybe next time.

Sure. The bottom line is that none of us knows what her thinking is. We're all playing armchair shrinks. All I can do is learn all I can about her from public sources and draw my own conclusions. So, I see a highly educated liberal - registered Democrat, a woman of color with biracial children, daughter of immigrants thrust into the MAGA swamp because of her power-mad husband. What are the chances she's comfortable with this transition? I scratch my head and conclude that privately she's frustrated. That said, your guess is as good as mine.

Thank you for responding. I didn't expect it as a first time commenter.

All in all, it doesn't matter what we think. Whether she's privately frustrated or even angry about it, or whether she's willingly complicit, the result is the same.

When you consider how abusive JD is in public, he is most likely a tyrant behind closed doors. Brilliant women with Masters degrees from Cambridge are not immune to domestic abuse or verbal threats & intimidation by their spouses. Sadly, there are no “safe house programs” for wives of the VP. I imagine MAGA has made threats against her children and her parents if she tries to leave JD.

Interesting perspective. Add to that the fact that she has been the brunt of racist attacks by MAGA nuts. And in her position, enveloped in power and guarded by the Secret Service, there's a likelihood she couldn't just leave. They'd go after her with everything. Many of us have witnessed personally situations of a wife being in dire fear of an abusive husband and feeling helpless. The motivated have recourse to a call line. Someone in her position really doesn't.

Astute analysis. She is inscrutable--sports a wise poker face for someone who cannot afford to be tainted forever by her husband's temporary visit to the dark side, nor can she afford to lose whatever ties she has to the real world. (What possessed her to go to Greenland at all is beyond me--a rather stupid decision for a seemingly sensible lawyer.) She ought to go back to using her maiden name. Being married to J. Dunderhead seems to be a lose-lose proposition...I wish her luck.

It’ll be interesting to see where she lands years from now, especially if hubby either ends up in jail, or is a forever stained reprobate.
