The QAnon Druidesses of Congress
In chronicling the Roman conquest of the Welsh Island of Mona in 60 CE, historian Tacitus wrote:
Among them were black-robed women with disheveled hair like Furies, brandishing torches. Close by stood Druids, raising their hands to heaven and screaming dreadful curses scared our soldiers by the unfamiliar sight, so that, as if their limbs were paralyzed, they stood motionless. Then urged by their general’s appeals and mutual encouragements not to quail before a troop of frenzied women, they bore the standards onwards, smote down all resistance, and wrapped the foe in the flames of their own torches. The groves devoted to Mona’s barbarous superstitions he demolished. For it was their religion to drench their altars in the blood of prisoners and commune with their gods by means of human entrails.
History echoes itself, and upon reading Tacitus's Annals, I was struck with parallels to today. Replace barbarian Celts with Republicans and ancient druidesses with modern-day female QAnuses, and one cannot but conclude we humans have been here before. What's left to complete the story - yet to be written - is for Joe Biden to fill the role of Roman conqueror, Suetonius Paulinus, who vanquished the barbarian Celts and their frenzied women screaming dreadful curses, in that case, by setting them on fire. Josephus Bidenius need not resort to such draconian measures. Out-smarting them and marginalizing them with progressive policies should do it. And in the process, one hopes, enlighten the benighted masses who put them in Congress - just as the Romans civilized the ancient Britons.
Today's frenzied, curse-spewing druidesses have not yet drenched their pagan QAnon altars with the blood and entrails of their enemies but you can bet your bottom dinarius they would if they felt they could get away with it. After all, they did have their very own horn-helmeted tatted shaman.
The barbarians breached the walls of America's democracy well before January 6, but count the previous November 3 as a benchmark date, for that is when the good citizens of Colorado's 3rd district and Georgia's 14th district voted to Congress two women so out there in far-right Jabberwockyland that House speaker Pelosi referred to the gun-packing duo as an "enemy within the House of Representatives."
Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene use the English language as a flame-thrower and have placed the AR-15 among the false deities they worship in their jacked-up Jesus credo.
Georgia's Greene's antics of lunacy are so vast and fast & furious that it's hard to keep up chronicling them. A Whitman's sampler:
COVID passports will be "Biden's mark of the Beast."
African-Americans "are held slaves to the Democratic Party."
"The only way you get your freedoms back is it's earned with the price of blood."
"It's a crime punishable by death is what treason is. Nancy Pelosi is guilty of treason."
“Zionist supremacists” are secretly masterminding Muslim immigration to Europe in a scheme to outbreed white people.
"A laser beam or light beam coming down to Earth I guess. Could that cause a fire? Hmmm, I don’t know. I hope not! That wouldn’t look so good for PG&E, Rothschild Inc."
"I am told that Nancy Pelosi tells Hillary Clinton several times a month that 'we need another school shooting' in order to persuade the public to want strict gun control."
"There's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take this global cabal of Satan-worshiping pedophiles out, and I think we have the president to do it."
In a campaign poster featuring her with an assault rifle looking down on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, she wrote that it was time for "strong conservative Christians to go on the offense against these socialists who want to rip our country apart."
"It’s still fascism, or communism, whatever you want to call it, but it’s coming from private companies. So, I have a term for that. I call it 'corporate communism.'"
Firearm fetishist Lauren Boebert rivals her Q-comrade-in-crazy:
"The only way I'm safe to walk around any dangerous liberal city is with an equalizer. Gun control is anti-woman."
"Everything I've heard of Q, I hope that this is real because it only means America is getting stronger and better."
On January 5, Boebert tweeted, "Remember these next 48 hours. These are some of the most important days in American history.” On January 6, she tweeted, "Today is 1776."
While the Capitol was being stormed, Boebert posted information on Twitter about the police response and the location of members, including that Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Both have trolled Stoneman Douglas High School shooting survivor David Hogg, with Greene actually physically stalking him, even stating she was packing a gun. These are the acts of psychotics. And both steadily spew forth lies about a "deep state" and a "stolen election." They play coy about the January 6 putschists and some congresspeople suspect Boebert herself played a role. Their invective is routinely laced with references to threats of violence.
According to Media Matters, fifty-one candidates who promoted the Q fairy tales ran for Congress in 2020. That so many Dark Age denizens seek public office bespeaks a troubled nation, one too many of whose people embrace hate, ignorance and superstition as an elixir to cure what ails their disturbed poxied souls.
Greene, whose sole stab at legislation so far has been to introduce a quixotic impeachment bill against Biden the day after he assumed office, has been stripped of her committee assignments, rendering her essentially useless to her constituents. Boebert has proven to be an embarrassment and laughingstock for her district and state. Clearly, neither grasps what being a legislator is all about. They will bring no deliverables to their constituents, likely making them single-termers. Should, however, either or both be re-elected two years hence, kiss the country goodbye. Worse, should more QAnoners win office, ensure that your passport is valid.
Tacitus foresaw what could bring down a great nation:
"A shocking crime was committed on the unscrupulous initiative of a few individuals, with the blessing of more, and amid the passive acquiescence of all."
