Proud to be an Enemy of the State (and purveyor of "fake news")
The FAKE NEWS media (failing @nytimes, @NBCNews, @ABC, @CBS, @CNN) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People! ~ Donald Trump
If men are to be precluded from offering their sentiments on a matter, which may involve the most serious and alarming consequences that can invite the consideration of mankind, reason is of no use to us; the freedom of speech may be taken away, and dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep, to the slaughter. ~ George Washington
Should the Trump Revolution advance to the level of a unitarian regime, I fully expect to be among the first to take a bullet in the back of the head over a freshly dug trench. Why? Because I have the distinction of occupying the top two categories of Trump's Enemies of the State: 1) a Deep State operative; and 2) a member of the Fake News media.
In Confessions of a Deep State Operative, I described how "I schemed against six sitting presidents in my years as a deep cover Deep State operative. I connived with scores of other cabalists...in a long sorry career of working with my fellow losers seeking to undermine the U.S. of A." And, by the way, "during my time in the Deep State, 78 fellow diplomats were killed in the line of duty."
If Steve Bannon and his Sturmabteilung cohorts have their way, people like me will be looking at years of mining salt and uranium at "reform through labor" camps in the vast Trumpista gulag that will sprawl across the face of America. I see myself fighting over bread crumbs with the likes of James Clapper, Jim Comey, Rachel Maddow and many more lesser lights like myself.
Just read some of my published articles, not to mention the constant bilge of fake news I spew forth in this blog. Donald Trump's Farcical Foreign Policy, Tinker. Tailor. Mogul. Spy?, Post-Trexit: A Blueprint for Restoring Foreign Policy & the State Department After Trump is Gone. If I were in Russia, I'd be occupying a lead-lined, radioactivity-proof coffin; or, in China, I'd be in a jail cell. Ah. But here in the Land of the Free I can put forth all the fake news I care to with no repercussions. But for how much longer?
I first got an earful on the evils of the liberal news media when working as a cub UPI city desk reporter in New York during grad school. A guy calls from Georgia and demands to know why we were so critical of Nixon "and all this Watergate nonsense." I attempted to explain patiently that we report on people and events according to where the facts lead us. Mr. Peach State would have none of it and went into a tirade about the "biased liberal mainstream media," yadda, yadda. Then he got personal and attacked my integrity as a journalist. I ended the call with a terse, "Good day."
I, like many journalists, get attacked all the time. I receive emails and blog comments accusing me of all manner of sins, mostly centered on my alleged political bias. I'm most satisfied when I get attacked by both left and right (google some of my articles on Obama). It tells me I am doing my job well as an equal-opportunity gadfly. But these days, the criticism is overwhelmingly from the right. "I've followed you for years and am truly saddened by your being such a rabid anti-Trump individual. You claim he lies, so will you at least provide us with some concrete examples of that?" a friend from Nevada posted. I sent him a link to The New York Times's recent article, a comprehensive compendium of the president's falsehoods, Trump's Lies. "He said something untrue, in public, every day for the first 40 days of his presidency. Since then, he has said something untrue on at least 74 of 113 days. On days without an untrue statement, he is often absent from Twitter, vacationing at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, or busy golfing... No other president — of either party — has behaved as Trump is behaving. He is trying to create an atmosphere in which reality is irrelevant." But that's from the lamestream media. Fake news.
Turning to REAL news, let's look at Der Stürmer, er, I mean Breitbart. (In a rare pang of conscience, I'm spending more time on this site, determined to wean myself away from Fake News.) First, wade through the side articles, "13 Stunning Weather Girls Who Have Gone Viral" with a photo of a busty "weather girl" and (Trump's old hangout) "Studio 54 and the Debauchery That Ensued." In ‘Fake News Industrial Complex’: Dr. Seb Gorka Defines the Enemy ‘Opposition Party’ Media, citing "sources close to the president," we learn that “'filthy, bloody war looms' with the fake news media—something the media will lose when confronted directly, head-on, for the first time it has ever been challenged." Oh my! How I hate "filthy, bloody war." Presidential advisor "Doctor" Sebastian Gorka, incidentally, is an interesting character, a multi-citizen, nation-hopping opportunist with dubious credentials and a penchant for European fascist movements.
Alas — I am unrecalcitrant, too set in my ways, too much a creature of the Deep State and Fake News establishment. Hopeless. Clearly destined for the gulag once the Trump Revolution succeeds against all odds of incompetence, mendacity and treason. Taking my cue from our first president, I shall follow my fellow lamestream journalists, "like sheep, to the slaughter."
