Attack of the Swamp Creatures! (Yes, it's Trump, et al.)
When I was a kid, I saw a re-release of the iconic Creature From the Black Lagoon. It scared the bejeesus out of me. The 3-D visual thrust the monster in the viewer's face, up close and personal. An apotheosis of 1950s B-grade sci-fi horror films, CFBL generated spin-offs of such pop culture masterpieces as Revenge of the Creature, Johnny in Monsterland and one of my all-time favorites, Abbott and Costello Meet the Creature from the Black Lagoon. (Btw, I'm planning on finally getting around to writing a deep-thought treatise on "Who's on First?" with, of course, a political angle. Stay tuned.)
Fast forward several decades and I'm again being frightened out of my skin, this time by the swamp creatures infesting Washington. Drain the Swamp! was the battle cry of the Trumpista hordes. Do away with "business as usual." How refreshing. Let us review a Whitman's Sampler of how it's all gone thus far --
Michael Flynn is forced to quit as National Security Advisor. Nailed by Mueller.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions lies to the Judiciary Committee about his contacts with Russian officials.
FBI Director James Comey fired.
Donald Trump Jr. meets with a Russian lawyer/Putin lackey for “dirt” on Clinton.
Trump’s choice for CDC director is forced to resign for trading tobacco stocks after being nominated and for incriminating ties to big pharma.
Trump advisor, Carl Icahn, cashes in on steel stock trades before Trump announces tariffs.
Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price resigns over scandal.
Treasury Secretary and his wife rack up $25,000/hour on a government aircraft for their honeymoon.
HUD Secretary Ben Carson spends 31 g's of taxpayer money a dining set.
Trump’s VA chief sends his wife on a European jaunt at taxpayers' expense.
Interior Secretary Zinke spends $150,000 on doors and a secure phone booth for his office.
Kellyanne Conway promotes Ivanka's cosmetics in violation of federal law.
The Russians Are Coming! --
Paul Manafort and his imminent rendez-vous with a penitentiary of his choice.
And, don't forget, Rick Gates...
… and George Papadopoulos.
Oops! Did we mention Carter Page?
Trump’s aide, Rob Porter, is forced out on charges of spousal abuse.
Jared Kushner and other White House staffers are stripped of security clearances they should never have gotten.
EPA's Scott Pruitt’s every waking hour.
Stormy! Karen! Bimbo eruptions everywhere!!
Vekselberg. Cohen. ATT. Korean Aerospace. Novartis. $$$. Slush. Slush. Slush.
Head spinning yet? Smell the soupy bilge of the swamp? You should. We're practically drowning in it.
The Trump administration will go down as the most corrupt in American history, putting to shame the comparative peccadilloes of the Warren Harding crew who look like mere pikers with their quaint Teapot Dome scandal, until Watergate, regarded as the "greatest and most sensational scandal in the history of American politics." It involved corruption over oil field concessions and an Interior Secretary on the take. No Russian oligarchs. No hush fund payments to the lawyers of bimbos. No election rigging. Though Harding did father a child with a young woman whom he "shagged" in a White House broom closet. He also was blackmailed into paying today's equivalent of $300,000 by another mistress. But the clueless, bumbling Harding is a monk compared to Donald Trump whose zipper malfunctions are being exposed by the week.
But it is Sheriff Bob Mueller & Posse's relentless chasing of the money trail that will doom the Trump presidency. Try as they might, fellow swamp creatures Devin Nunes, Jim Jordan, Mark Meadows, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, not to mention the inimitable Rudy G., will be stymied by the rule of law.
Yet CFBL's Mark Williams (played by that tour de force of the American stage, Richard Denning) said it best, "We must have the proof!"
